I recently was invited to a Wine tasting at The Funky Monkey Wine company to meet the Wine Maker and Owner of the Mauritson Family Winery in Dry Creek Valley California. We had the pleasure of sampling about 7 of his truly outstanding wines. Though insanely tough to pick a favorite, I was blown away by his Zinfindels. The Dry Creek 2009 Zinfindel had a bouquet (this means the scent or nose of) full of dark fruits like blackberry, minerals, cracked pepper, blueberry pie, and sweet oak . The first sip danced on my palate and was full of ripe and juicy tannins. This Zinfandel has plenty of structure, and layers of waves and flavor. The finish persists long after the last sip is gone.
